BIS U10A 3 - Al Azhar 2
Goalscorers : Jeremy Hillock 2 Ablai McKerrow 1
Team: Berkhout, Ross, Rowe, Boyce, Gibney, Hillock, Tjahaja, Kameyama, Broadfoot, Benmaamar, McKerrow, McFadden
After three easy wins so far this season the BIS A team was put to the strongest of tests against the unbeaten and very impressive Al Azhar A team.
This was a great advertisement for the JSFA U10 A league with both teams willing to attack and play a high level of football from the start.
Charlie McFadden opened the game with a great run down the right but was stopped just as he shot and Ablai Mckerrow fired just wide in an entertaining opening five minutes from BIS. Jeremy Hillock then put BIS A in front with his “trademark” free kick that eluded the Al Azhar keeper under pressure from Shawn Tjahaja. From that point Al Azhar started to take control and played some great attacking football. The BIS defence was outstanding with Gijs Berkhout in goal proving that BIS have their very own “van der Sar” as Gijs put on a truly “Dutch” master class in making numerous brilliant saves to keep BIS ahead.
Q2 was again a rear guard action from BIS with Al Azhar, after hitting the woodwork 3 times, finally getting a deserved equaliser with a strong long range shot and then they took the lead minutes before halftime with a close range effort.
Q3 Could easily have seen BIS A drop their heads but they stayed focused as a team and started to get hold of the ball with some tenacious tackles and excellent team spirit with every player running their hearts out. BIS A equalised after some good prolonged pressure when a strong Hillock corner kick flashed across the front of the goal where the very alert Ablai McKerrow reacted brilliantly to knock the ball home. 2-2
Q4 was a heart stopping 12 minutes with Al Azhar in search of a winner and hitting the BIS team with everything but Berkhout continued to shine in goal and William Boyce and Kiran Ross were magnificent in winning tackle after tackle and they were ably supported by the hard working Kevin Gibney and Rijal Rowe.
Shawn Tjahaj showed his strength in the “air” making several brave defensive headers.
The BIS fitness levels started to show and the midfield of Hillock,Shimpei, Broadfoot and Tjahaja started to take control and with Ilyes Benmaamar working hard up front the ball broke from the Al Azhar box and fell to Captain Jeremy Hillock who lined himself up stayed composed didnt rush himself and then struck a perfect shot high into the top right corner of the goal giving the Al Azhar keeper no chance. What a great goal. BIS A 3- Al Azhar 2,
Four minutes to go !!!
The game was still wide open moving from one end to the other and Charlie McFadden almost made it four after a mazy run but his shot was well saved at the foot of the post and again Al Azhar pressed the BIS goalmouth but with Boyce, Ross and Gijs Berkhout standing strong and the rest of the team working hard to cover each other the final whistle went with a very tired and drained BIS A holding out for a vital win in their push for the title.
To be honest Al Azhar deserved a draw but the teamwork and fantastic spirit the BIS A team showed throughout the game just gave them the edge and the win.
It was a privilege to be part of this game.
