Match report:

BIS A kicked of the new season with a tough game against a talented JJC A at the BIS field.

The BIS A team had seven players making their A league debuts.

The game was started in heavy rain which made the playing conditions quite difficult for both teams who struggled early on to get into their stride. BIS were the first to push and after a few runs from strikers Matty Bavin and Charlie McFadden BIS finally made the breakthrough when Matty Bavin made a goal from nothing when he received a pass from Luke Faulds and turned with his back to goal close to the halfway line and dribbled past two defenders at pace and fired a great left foot cross shot into the bottom corner, a great solo goal from Matty, 1-0.

JJC began to get into the game now with some good runs and movement and it was a few minutes before they equalized from a near post corner that squeezed past the BIS defence,1-1 at the end of the first quarter. JJC were getting on top and only good defensive play from Mawson, Parsons, Jong Joo and Siddartha kept the score level.

The second quarter began at pace and Jeremy Hillock and Michael Wang were both unlucky not to score with Michael Wang hitting the post before JJC broke fast from defense down the left before crossing and creating a tap-in goal, 1-2 to JJC at the end of the quarter.

The third quarter proved decisive. When you are down you look to your captain for inspiration and Luke Faulds did his best impression of “Stevie Gerrard” by winning a strong tackle in midfield and then surged forward before unleashing a powerful shot into the right side “top corner” for a great equalizer.2-2, Game on !.

The inclusion of Rijal Rowe, Ablai McKerrow and Shawn Tjahaja at halftime improved our balance and after a great break out of defense by Siddartha he crossed the ball for Shawn Tjahaja who controlled the ball nicely before firing another excellent shot across the keeper into the net, 3-2 to BIS.

Vice Captain Jeremy Hillock was having an outstanding game in central midfield and he created another goal after good link up play with Charlie McFadden, Jeremy played a sharp ball to Matty Bavin who again ran through and scored at ease past the keeper,4-2 at the end of the third quarter.
BIS continued to play good attacking football with Faulds, Dong Hyun Kim, Tjahaja, Rowe and Wang all prominent during the fourth quarter and it was no surprise when Jeremy Hillock passed the ball through again, this time for the impressive Ablai McKerrow to run on and score with a very cool finish into the bottom corner of the goal, BIS 5 – JJC 2.

The final goals came in the last five minutes, BIS won a corner on the right and Luke Faulds corner kick was almost headed in by Chelsea Rock, Chelsea continued to fight for the ball and won possession with a neat twist and turn before being fouled from behind by a JJC defender, Penalty Kick! .With Matty Bavin already on 2 goals Matty took the kick and easily scored to get his first Hat-trick of the season and get ample reward for a really great game in attack.

JJC to their credit kept trying to breakthrough a very solid BIS defense and finally scored with a last minute long range shot which squeezed into the goal, Final Score BIS A 6 JJC A 3.

The BIS team had many good performances, in defense Calum Pitkethly, Rijal Rowe and Siddartha made some excellent tackles and showed their good pace when we needed it, Tom Mawson, Chelsea Rock, Zach Parsons and Rijal Rowe all showed they are strong defenders and are tough to beat and in goal Jong Joo Kim made several important saves in difficult wet conditions to keep JJC at bay.

The midfield as expected was the engine room of the team and big games from Jeremy Hillock Luke Faulds and Shawn Tjahaja combined with some great running from Dong Hyun Kim and Michael Wang ended up dominating the JJC team in midfield. This provided the ammunition for the forward line to score the goals to win the match. Up front Matty Bavin took the star ratings with his 3 well taken goals and Ablai McKerrow and Charlie McFadden both worked hard and unselfishly for the team.

A very good start for BIS A who showed they can play good attacking football and at the back in defense they have a strong mix of defenders that are going to be difficult to beat. This is only the first game so lots of hard work ahead if we are to be successful this season.
